Get Ready to Recharge!

The month of Elul is upon us! In four weeks, we will be ushering in the New Year 5782. Over the next month the Jew will spend a great deal of time in thought, introspection, soul searching, prayer and תשובה -- repentance.

Rabbi Beryl Wein points out Elul is also a month of recharging. The last eleven months our batteries have been working overtime and are close to being drained. We need a fully charged battery now more than ever.

Over the past few years cordless rechargers have appeared on the market. No longer do we have to search for the recharging cord. Just place the electronic device on the recharger and you will be in business in no time.

The Elul spiritual recharging is cordless as well. We only need to use our ears, heart, and desire to be spiritually invigorated. Beginning with the first day of Elul, the shofar is sounded daily except Shabbos. I have sadly mentioned numerous times, many only hear the Shofar on Rosh Hashanah. A great opportunity is lost. A full month of spiritual recharging has been lost.

This year, enter Rosh Hashanah fully charged. Join us at morning minyan during the month of Elul for a spiritually electrifying experience. The prophet Amos teaches: אִם־יִתָּקַע שׁוֹפָר בְּעִיר וְעָם לֹא יֶחֱרָדוּ If the Shofar is sounded in the city, will the people not tremble? Please God on Monday morning, when the Shofar is sounded in shul, the shudder that goes through my body will be the spiritual batteries coming alive.

Elul is a remarkable month that is the first step in the High Holiday process. This year make the most of the thirty days leading to Rosh Hashanah. With fully recharged spiritual batteries you will enter the New Year ready to go!
